Custom Control Solutions

When an off-the-shelf product does not fit the application, the factory page says Vtronix can help find a solution. Custom control solutions on this page are that factory process, together with the catalog control boards whose sheets say they are factory installed or that OEM modifications are available. Honeywell thermostats on the residential and commercial pages are catalog products. This page does not describe them as custom Vtronix designs.

The factory page says Vtronix has world-class individuals and facilities, and seasoned professionals with demonstrated experience in electronic control design and manufacturing. Stated strengths on the site are product design to meet customer needs, short lead times, reasonable prices with consistent quality, and dedicated pre-sales and after-sales support. No price is printed on a product page. The full board catalog, with timings and ratings, is the control system for HVAC page. The cards themselves are on Control Boards.

Application and specification

Application is the first factory step. Work starts by understanding the application, including the environment and the other details involved in the product. The factory page describes that conversation as the start of a successful product, before a board is laid out.

Specification is the second step. Once an application is understood, an engineering specification for the product is developed and approved. Often the specification is iterated with engineering and factory personnel to reach the cost and performance tradeoff for that product and application. The site does not publish a blank specification form. A request goes through Contact Us or Request a Quote on a product page.

Design, test, and approvals

Design and test is the third step. Before production, products are tested to confirm compliance with the approved development specification. Those tests include product testing in the factory and application testing in the United States. If listing agency approvals such as UL, CSA, or ETL, or government approvals such as FCC and CE, are required, the factory page says Vtronix completes the required tests and approvals.

Separate from a one-off project, the site states that Vtronix meets ISO, UL, CSA, and CE. Quality control starts with inspection of incoming parts and continues through 100 percent in-circuit, functional, and automatic optical inspection testing. The production line is in an electrostatically controlled, fully air conditioned facility. Those statements are on the home and about pages. They describe the line. They are not a claim that every catalog board carries every one of those marks.

Production and quality control

Production is the fourth step. Product is produced under the quality control system in the production facility. Products are inventoried and distributed from the warehouse in Miami Gardens, Florida. Product liability insurance is carried for customers. Quality control is the fifth step. To detect problems quickly, returns are analyzed locally. Regular reviews are held with the factory.

Boards the sheets call factory installed or OEM-modifiable

R200A/S3 is a microprocessor board for a hot water or electric heat air handler. A jumper selects the heat type. Electric heat controls a line-voltage fan or a low-voltage ECM motor. Hot water adds a pump, a 24 Vac isolation valve, and a dry contact for a water heater. The sheet says the board must be factory installed inside the equipment. Line voltage is 120 to 240 Vac, 50/60 Hz. The sheet says the board is tested to UL 873. R201 is a two-speed AHU control board for a combo air handler, with 2-speed line-voltage fan control, line-voltage water-pump control, 24 Vac control of an isolation valve, and a dry switching relay for a water heater. Its sheet also says the board must be factory installed inside the equipment. Line voltage on that sheet is 120 Vac, 50/60 Hz, and the board is tested to UL 873.

R100A is an air-conditioning control board with high-pressure and low-pressure switch inputs. The sheet lists freeze protection, an adjustable delay on make of 0.03 to 10 minutes, a 3 minute compressor delay on break, and a post purge adjustable from 10 to 90 seconds. Operating voltage is 18 to 30 Vac. The sheet says OEM custom modifications are available. That sentence is the published note about changes. It does not list which circuits can be changed.

Catalog boards used when an off-the-shelf control fits

The rest of the Control Boards page is the off-the-shelf set. R85A-001 is a UL approved 3-speed fan board with 24 V input, 120-277 V, and 11 A fan control. R60A is a fan delay board with a 30 second on delay and a 30 second off delay. R60B-45/S2 has a 1 second on delay and a 45 second off delay. CBX02003 is a fan blower post-purge time delay of 65 seconds. CBX99100 is a one-speed fan-off delay board with a fixed 90 second off delay. R502 is a heater timing board with hour presets of 0, 3, 6, or 12. R401 is a configurable microprocessor board for water source heat pumps. CB600V is a thermostat interface board for an ECM motor, and R650 is an ECM motor interface. W100 is a chiller controller. RAB-A24.11BE3 is a magnetic starter, 220 V. Those are catalog descriptions. A project that does not match one of them goes back to the five factory steps above.

FAQ

What steps does a Vtronix custom control solution follow?

The factory page lists five steps: application, specification, design and test, production, and quality control. Application starts by understanding the environment. An engineering specification is developed and often iterated with engineering and factory personnel. Products are tested in the factory and in application testing in the United States before production. Finished product is inventoried and distributed from the warehouse in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Which catalog boards are factory installed or open to OEM changes?

The R200A/S3 sheet says the board must be factory installed inside the equipment. The R201 sheet says the same. The R100A sheet says OEM custom modifications are available. Other control boards on the Control Boards page are catalog products. A custom job uses the factory steps when an off-the-shelf board does not fit.

Which approvals can be completed for a custom control?

The factory page says UL, CSA, or ETL listings, and FCC and CE approvals, are completed when the project requires them. The site also states that Vtronix meets ISO, UL, CSA, and CE.

How do I request a quote for a custom control?

Prices are not shown on the product pages. Use Request a Quote on a product page or the contact form. Sales email is sales@vtronix.com and the phone is 305-471-7600.
